In
1989 my husband Malcolm and I started
(with the help of a neighbour) clearing and planting this 2 acre
field. We found lots of rock and barrow loads of stones. The
stones came in useful for making paths and steps in this sloping south
facing garden beside Dunmanus Bay. On the left is what we started
with. On the right as it is today.

|
Gradually the garden took shape and is of course forever
changing. Malcolm developed a severe case of Hostaitis a few years
back which resulted in a large number of Hostas being planted on the edge
of the natural stream in the woodland garden.

A narrow strip of grass on a terrace is now the oriental
area with bridges, Acers, ponds and gravel.
|
The heather and conifer bank was taken over to make room for
my current passion, growing southern hemisphere plants. Resulting in
the southern hemisphere walk with rill.

Malcolm has now contracted Sorbus sickness and the only
remedy seems to be the acquisition of lots of Sorbus. His collection
now numbers 43 and we are now vying for space in the garden!

I have to confess to being a seedaholic and get immense pleasure in raising
plants from seed which I get from Australia, New Zealand and South Africa.
This is a garden for all seasons. Do come and visit us.
